A walk on the wild side? Why hikers could see more animals this Memorial Day weekend

A squirrel with his cheeks filled in Yosemite Valley on April 11, 2020. (Carolyn Cole / Los Angeles Times) With Memorial Day weekend now upon us, residents across California will get out in nature and experience an ecosystem reshaped by a record-setting wet winter. Wildlife experts say the rain has already started to improve habitats and populations for certain species — a trend they hope to reverberate through the entire landscape. That likely means the region will be populated with more squirrels, rabbits, rats and snakes although, in some cases, it could take several months or longer to see the…

PERRY, Iowa (KCCI) – People often think of bunnies as cute little creatures featured in Easter celebrations and county fairs. But what if one jumped up and bit you? The rabbits were making their home on the construction site for the Rosemeade Inn along Lampson Street. Nygaard said she is trying to start a veggie garden and keeping the rascally rabbits out would be impossible. “Bunnies can…

caring for rabbits; the do’s and don’ts of Easter bunnies

WELLINGTON COUNTY- It’s generally accepted that rabbits are adorable creatures. They hop around, are most active in the early hours of the afternoon and are known to be quiet pets, making them a great fit for families with children. When properly cared for they make loving and loyal companions, but require much more care than most people realize. It is estimated that as many as 80% of all rabbits purchased at Easter die or are abandoned before their first birthday. Too often owners are unprepared for the commitment involved in keeping them. To prevent this from happening, it’s important to…
